This cathedral stands out in the graceful urban landscape. Being majestic and highly decorated with mosaics, it instantly penetrates the very heart and remains there forever.
The Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located on Republic Square in Yoshkar-Ola. In October 2010, Ioannes, the Archbishop of Yoshkar-Ola and Mari El, performed the rite for the temple foundation. In 2013, the construction of the bell tower was completed and the bells were installed. At the end of October 2014, the crosses were erected at the cathedral.
In the architectural terms, it is a cross-in-square cathedral made in the Russian style. It has five domes, the bell tower is located on the north side. The temple height is 74 m, the capacity is two thousand people. The temple facades are decorated with the mosaic panels. There is a sculptural composition of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the Christ child, and a fountain of the Archangel Gabriel near the cathedral.
On June 12, 2016, the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was consecrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. At the same time, the Patriarchal Decree was read, according to which the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary became the cathedral of the Yoshkar-Ola eparchy. The former Ascension Cathedral became a parish church.
