Yoshkin Cat

The figure of Yoshkin Cat was installed on June 27, 2011 at the main entrance to Mari State University. The cat settled down on a bench, next to it is an improvised newspapercalled "Naked Truth"("Golaya Pravda"). The etymology of naming the cat goes back to the euphemism "Yoshkin(Ёшкин) Cat", where the letter "Yo (Ё)" is replaced by "Yo (Йо)", which is consonant with the name of the city of Yoshkar-Ola (Yoshkain young people speech).

The authors of the monument are artists Sergey Yandubaev, Anatoly Shirninand Alexey Shilov. City’s YoshkinСat appeared thanks to the philanthropist SergeyParamonov, as evidenced by the corresponding inscription on the sculpture "Gift to the city from Paramonov S. V." As you know, the sketch of YoshkinCat was made from a real cat, familiar to the artists.
