The Evseev National Museum of the Republic Mari El is the oldest museum of the republic, the leader methodological and information centre for municipal and departmental museums of the republic, that stores unique museum items and museum collections.
The museum was opened on March 4, 1920. Timofey Evseevich Evseev, scientist-ethnographer, local historian, head of the Mari society of local historians who made a huge contribution to studying and preservation of traditional culture of the Mari people, was one of the founders of the museum, and later its director.

Pages of history of the Mari region from ancient times to the 80th of the 20th century.
The archaeological collection, the richest materials of history, ethnography, material and spiritual culture are of a great interest. The museum exhibitions reflect specific forms of flora and fauna of the region, traditions and customs of the Mari people.
